Hello! I’m Carl Crossgrove, the designer, dreamer, and color enthusiast behind Calabaza. I’ve explored many mediums, from ceramics and glass to fiber arts, and got immersed in printmaking and drawing, the design of shape and pattern always part of the journey. For many years, I focused on typefaces like Mundo Sans, Beorcana, Wakerobin, Amarone and Biome, which inevitably show the handmade and human element, whatever their style. Endless sketches for tableware, tile, lighting and textiles led me to a more colorful and abstract place.
That’s how Calabaza was born. Inspired by vibrant patterns, Mid-Mod style, and a belief that design should spark joy, I set out to create homegoods and textiles that make everyday moments a little brighter. In the kitchen, by the pool, on the sofa or on vacation, there’s room for uplifting color. And I still draw every element by hand, letting that human element show.
